Cafe's Star Product - Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer Review

July 31, 2012

"Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star", said the late William Clement Stone, a self-help book author. Lovely thought, that one!

So in my quest for the moon, err..... the body lotion, I hit upon this star - the Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer with Vitamin 3. After trying different brands and different formulations for my very dry skin, I had given up hope of getting a good body lotion. Garnier Cocoon was the only one that I had liked so far. Vaseline did an okay job in moisturising my skin but only temporarily.

I had bought some Jergens product (don't remember which one) really long back and found it to be good. Hence, I thought of trying a body lotion from this brand and got the 'Extra Dry Skin' variant.

Now it's time to welcome the new star shining in my cafe....

Product Description

As per the company website, this product heals dryness at the source for healthier-looking skin. Made with a blend of C, E, and B5, this fast-absorbing body lotion goes deep beneath skin's surface to lock in moisture and heal dryness at the source, preventing its unwelcome return.

It comes in a white bottle with a blue-colored screw cap. The cap has a flip top.

Rs 229. Available on

295 ml (and '25% more', as claimed on the bottle). So I got 295 ml + 74 ml extra = 369 ml.

My Experience

This is a very rich and heavy body lotion, especially meant for extra dry skin like mine. It takes a little time to get absorbed. But once absorbed, it instantly nourishes and softens your skin and fills in all the lines on your hands. It feels a bit sticky for some time after application; however, the stickiness reduces after a while. I think that it is waterproof. What I mean is that it does not get washed away easily under water unless you are trying to rub it off your hands.

I think it is decently priced and economical, and also does its job very well. It not only nourishes skin but also keeps them nourished for long hours. I do not feel the need to reapply it. I assume that this is because of the "healing at the source" and "locks in moisture for 24 hours of relief" company claims, which are almost true. Almost, because I have not checked after 24 hours...

UnBlended Lotion

I wish that it came in smaller bottles too, for carrying around. As of now, I have to transfer it to a travel-size bottle. I think that even other skin types can use this lotion maybe by diluting it with a little water because it actually makes skin so soft and smooth. Or else, you can try the other variants of Jergens meant for your skin type.

  • Rich and heavy body lotion
  • Especially meant for extra dry skin; but can be diluted and used by other skin types
  • Instantly nourishes and softens skin
  • Keeps them moisturized for a very long time
  • Does not get washed away easily with water
  • Decently priced and economical
  • Dermatologist tested

Right Hand - With No Lotion. See lines?

  • Takes a little time to get absorbed but nothing to worry about
  • Feels a bit sticky for some time after application
  • This particular size is quite inconvenient for travel purposes
  • Contains parabens
  • Availability

Left Hand - After Applying Lotion. Not sure if you can make out but skin after applying lotion is much smoother with lines visibly reduced

Overall Impression

This is a star product. This body lotion fulfills almost all its company claims. You can put this on and forget about re-application. I got a star, but when will I get the moon???  As of now, I am more than satisfied with this...

Here are the names of some of Junior's friends (pronounced in Junior style):

Russians (I assume it must be Rashi S. or something like that)
Zen Car (I assume that is Zain Khan)
Meter (could be Mita, sometimes he also says Peter)
Noskika (yet to figure out that one)

By the way, Chuttki from the 'Chota Bheem' cartoon is 'Chukkti'.
